Hi all....newbie here.

I am using ffmpegx to encode for DVD, but am not sure about the Mux process.

Should I Mux as Mpeg2, or DVD ? Seems like it would be the same thing.

I am still a bit vauge n teh Muxing process. I always thought it was taking separate audio and video files and making them into one. Anyone know where i can get a detailed explanation ?

thanks, as always...cheers.

Hi. I am trying to make my first DVD with my multiformat BenQ burner that I got for Christmas. I am using -R format DVD's and for some reason they wont play on my DVD player which is compatible with all DVD formats (JVC XVN312s). This is what I am doing; I am capturing from a Digital Satellite PVR (the Bell ExpressVu 5900) that is fed into my WinTV PVR 250. I am capturing in the "DVD Standard play" mpeg2 compression setting. I made the video with Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus and transferred it with the same. When I put it in my DVD player it wouldn't work. Then I tried it two additional times with WinDVD Creator and Nero 6 Ultra and had the same problem. They work on my computer but not on my DVD player. What am I doing wrong?

Ps. This may be a stupid question but what is the advantage of using a program like pinnacle to enode an mpeg2 file so it can be exported to a video camera as DV?

I downloaded "There's Something About Mary" in .avi format...
To convert the .avi --> mpeg, I used TMPGEnc v. 2.5...
After it completed the conversion, I had no video (only audio) on the newly created mpeg...
Just for kicks I decided to burn the file anyway (after I had cut it to put it on 2 cds)...
To burn the V-CD, I used ahead NERO v. 5.5.4.0 on my CD-RW drive...
This worked alright, but the video still failed to appear...

If anyone could please help to notify what I did wrong, or why I can't do this, that would be super... (do I need a DVD-RW drive???)

Afterall, watching a blank screen isn't much fun... confused.gif [/code]

Im currently running Gnome 2.16 and I think it's time to update to the latest version (2.20) I think. I would like to run " emerge world" but would like to make sure I have a working system after the update is done. Among other things, I need to upgrade to GCC 4.0, the latest gnome version, etc. What would be the best approach to ensure that my system is up to date with having to spend hours/days fixing anything that breaks during the update. Thanks in advance.

I'm really confused now. I just read the manuals of bot players and it seems that when you connect a TV to the HDMI, there is no digital out anymore through coaxial or optical for the receiver/amp. Or am I missing something? Haven't bought any until this is resolved.
I want to send video and audio of max quality through HDMI for TV and connect the receiver on coaxial for DD and DTS.

As the topic says: are there any "gray areas" where you just won't be able to encode videos with *nix?
Are there any specific "issues" that cant yet be overcome?

Think of my question like this: i work in an organisation where we use Autodesk Cleaner

I have a Biostar motherboard, with Award Bios, which blue screened on me and since will not post. It has blue screened in the past and I have always been able to recover by setting a jumper to clear the CMOS. This time even this does not work. All I get is one long beep after another.

The power supply spins up the fans and hardrive, I have tried different memory sticks in all of the slots, a different video card and even a different CPU to no avail. Therefore I believe the problem is with the motherboard.

My question is this. Is it possible that the Bios could be corrupted? It seems that most of the Bios problems mentioned on this forum are related to a bad flash. Is it possible for the Bios to become corrupt during a blue screen event?

I'm trying to decide whether it would be worth trying a new Bios chip or whether I should just replace the motherboard.

Thanks

I'm wondering if it's possible (through software) to pause, fast forward, etc the DV camera while video is being captured. While capturing footage in VideoStudio8, the camera controls are grayed out until the capture is stopped. Does another program allow for what I want? Thanks!

I have a PocketPC that I am buying a large SD Card for (8 gig) to hold video. I want to use Media Player 10 in it to play these files and I'm basically using it like one of the new personal media players coming out to play mp3's as well, view jpgs, and watch TV, movies, etc. My question,

What is the best format to use? I am assuming mpeg 4 and/or divx are the best. I know there is a format called wmv. What others does Media Player 10 play and is wmv the same as mpeg 4?
I just want to find the best format that will be good quality but yet compressed since I am limited with space.
As well, what is the best program to use to do these conversions, free or otherwise? These DVD's would be programs I record off of TV, not copyrighted DVD's
